Country Hills Egg Farm recently received approval of an application under the Natural Resources Conservation Board for a laying-hen barn. The project is currently under construction and is located on an 80-acre plot of land about five kilometres east of the city of Calgary. At full capacity, the project will house up to 100,000 laying hens and produce up to two trailer loads of eggs a week. The operation will also house about 52,000 pullets, or young hens, in a separate barn until they mature enough to lay eggs.
This project will replace Country Hills Egg Farm’s previous decommissioned laying-hen facility and will help bring product closer to the Calgary market, reducing potential environmental impacts caused by transportation.
